The St Joseph boys cross country team defeated Westhill at Allen's Meadow in Wilton on Tuesday, 19-42.  The Cadets lost to both Wilton and Darien.
 
Senior co-captain Carmine Corica led the Cadets, placing 11th overall in 18 minutes, 23 seconds.  Senior Nick Rosenau and freshman James Mas placed 16th and 17th respectively in 18:59.  Also breaking the 20-minute barrier on the 3.15 mile course were junior Jared Quigley (24th, 19:20), freshman Nick Zannis (27th, 19:35), senior co-captain Brian Reilly (30th, 19:54), and sophomore Kyle O'Brien (32nd, 19:59).
 
"Wilton is always a challenging course for us," said St. Joseph coach David Scrivines.  "We are going to work to close the gap between our runners and Wilton between now and the FCIAC championships.  They got three runners in before our first ... we're going to work on changing that."
 
Sophomore Will Gallagher had his personal-record of 20:29, placing 38th overall.  Junior Anthony Salzillo placed 42nd in 20:42 and sophomore Jack Guman placed 49th in 21:06, while juniors Erik Pstrag (50th, 21:08), Jon Lemanski (51st, 21:10) and Chris Haack (56th, 21:25) fared well in the meet.
 
Additional finishers included sophomore Evan Aldo (57th, 21:37), junior Joe Capio (63rd, 22:14), junior Mike Magocsi (65th, 22:20), sophomore Gary Broad (67th, 22:31), senior Mike Lovello (69th, 22:38), freshman Kevin Finn (73rd, 23:18), freshman Matt Potvin (79th, 25:25) and freshman Nick Maltese (82nd, 28:47).
 
September 22, 2012:
The St Joseph boys cross country team had a huge win over Ridgefield in Wednesday's quad meet at Tarywile Park in Danbury. St Joseph defeated the Tigers for the first-time ever, 26-30. The Cadets lost to Danbury (15-50) and Staples (15-50).  

Senior co-captain Carmine Corica led the Cadets, placing 19th overall on the 2.5-mile course in 14 minutes, 56 seconds. Senior Nick Rosenau placed 22nd overall in 15:15 and freshman James Mas placed 23rd in 15:20. St Joseph also had strong finishes from freshman Nick Zannis (28th, 15:30), senior co-captain Brian Reilly (32nd, 15:38), junior Jeremy Hopwood (36th, 15:44), and sophomore Kyle O'Brien (40th, 15:55).

"The win (against Ridgefield) was great to get," said St Joseph coach David Scrivines.  "Those were three very good teams today.  We had strong performances as a whole."

Junior Erik Pstrag placed 50th overall in 16:44, while junior Anthony Salzillo placed 54th in 17:00 and sophomore Jack Guman placed 58th overall in 17:14. Additioninal finishers included junior Jon Lemanski (60th, 17:18), sophomore Evan Aldo (62nd, 17:28), junior Chris Haack (63rd, 17:45), junior Joe Capio (64th, 18:08), junior Mike Magocsi (66th, 18:21), freshman Kevin Finn (67th, 18:30), freshman Joshua Dyke (68th, 21:14) and freshman Nick Maltese (70th, 22:11).

September 16, 2012:

The St Joseph boys cross country team placed 8th overall out of 25 teams in the Varsity-3 race at Saturday's Windham Invitational in Willimantic.  Senior co-captain Carmine Corica was the top finisher for the Cadets, placing 30th overall in 17 minutes, 56 seconds.  

The Cadets had a tight pack of runners in the 170-runner varsity race.  Senior Nick Rosenau placed 54th overall in 18:39, followed by junior Jared Quigley (55th, 18:40), junior Jeremy Hopwood (56th, 18:42) and senior co-captain Brian Reilly (59th, 18:51).  Freshman Nick Zannis placed 80th overall at 19:19 and junior Aidan Quigley placed 125th in 20:24.
"I was pleased with our overall performance," said St Joseph coach David Scrivines.  "We had a tight group of runners in slots two through five.  That will be very important as we approach post-season in October."
In the 237-runner JV-2 race, sophomore Kyle O'Brien was the top Cadets finisher, placing 23rd overall in 18:59.  Junior Erik Pstrag placed 42nd overall in 19:48 and junior Anthony Salzillo placed 51st in 20:05.  Additional strong performers included junior Jon Lemanski (52nd, 20:05), sophomore Jack Guman (55th, 20:08), and sophomore Evan Aldo (74th, 20:40).  Also, Joe Capio (78th, 20:43), Will Quigley (83rd, 20:55), Will Gallagher (96th, 21:13) and senior Mike Lovello (105th, 21:30).
In the 2.1-mile freshman race, St. Joseph finishers included Josh Dyke (107th, 14:33), Kevin Finn (138th, 14:53), Matt Potvin (178th, 15:38) and Nick Maltese (246th, 17:46).

September 8, 2012:

The Boys XC team sponsored the second annual 5K fundraiser out back on 8 September. First Selectman, Mr Tim Herbst and Dr Fitz (and his daughter, Kerry) were among the runners. None got lost. There were also many alums of all ages. Jared Quigley ‘14 came in first among the students. Over 140 started and all finished. Thanks to the many volunteers and helpers who made this event happen!
