St. Joe's is different from every other high school in our region.
We are a Catholic school, sharing our vision and values with all the Catholic community in the Diocese of Bridgeport. We are partners with, not separate from the parishes, pastors, and parishioners that make up Fairfield County. One elementary school teacher said, "There is no way of calculating the advantages a church-school environment creates for our children." And that holds for Catholic and non-Catholic alike.
We are singularly college prep. One hundred percent of our students graduate, ninety-nine percent go on to college, ninety-eight percent go on to four-year schools. An admission officer at a select private school up the Connecticut Valley recently advised an incoming parent, "In that area, look at St. Joe's, they have a very rigorous academic program."
We are co-educational. College preparation is not simply about Calculus and AP Biology. It is learning to relate to real world situations. The high school years are a critical time for character development and social skill acquisition. As one elementary public school principal said, "Had I known how good the academics are at St. Joe's, my son would have gone there as well."
We are family. The president said after his orientation to St. Joe's, "I've never seen a school where the kids are so free, so unafraid to celebrate each other. These kids are confidant and genuinely caring." One parent observed, "these are the kids I want my kids figuring out adolescence with."
We are competitive. Whether it is Math team or the drama program or varsity sports, our students successfully compete in Connecticut's most competitive interscholastic league, the FCIAC. With matchless fields and over 25 interscholastic sports we have a team for everyone. Girls Soccer, Boys Lacrosse, and Hockey-all won state titles last year. Cross Country, Swimming, Track welcomed all comers. One coach said, "Benches? Who needs them? Nobody sits on them."
We are connected. We network with social service agencies throughout the diocese and with mission programs in South America. We do calculate the service hours of our students for the college admission officers, but service here is more an expectation than a requirement. Name a charitable event and St. Joe's will be involved. We teach that we are most real when we are for others.
Please come by for a visit. You will find that our motto, 'Privilege and Responsibility,' is actually our mandate. Being responsible is the privilege. We believe we offer the most complete college preparatory program you will find anywhere--and we believe you will find a whole lot more. An education steeped in 'Faith and Reason' is a unique recipe for a successful life.
The reason I write to you is my strong intention to say "thank you " again to all of you in St Joseph High School . Please convey my deep appreciation to all the teachers there.
My three boys really benefited a lot from St. Joseph in many ways. They got great confidence and positive perspective in life from your teaching, affection and caring.
